Titleist is an American brand name of golf equipment produced by the Acushnet Company, headquartered in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, United States. The Titleist brand, established in 1932 by Phillip E. Young, focuses on golf balls and clubs.
THE TITLEIST STORY
How a missed putt inspired one of, if not the, single most important pieces of equipment in the history of the game.
The Titleist brand started with a vision – and an x-ray. The Titleist success story began one Sunday in 1932, when Phil Young, a dedicated amateur golfer and owner of a precision molded rubber company, missed a well-stroked putt in a match with his friend, who was head of the x-ray department at a local hospital.
Convinced that the ball itself was at fault, Young and his opponent went to the hospital, x-rayed the golf ball in question and found that its core was, in fact, off-center.
With his discovery, Phil Young persuaded Fred Bommer, a fellow MIT graduate, rubber specialist and avid golfer, to head up the Acushnet Golf Division. They set out to develop the highest quality and best performing golf ball in the world; one that would be uniform and consistent in quality, ball after ball.
It took Young and Bommer three painstaking years to perfect the first Titleist golf ball, but when it was ready in 1935, it could truthfully be introduced to club professionals and golfers as the best ball ever made. Applying a lesson well learned, Young implemented a process check that is still in practice today: every Titleist golf ball is x-rayed.
Before any product is stamped with the Titleist script and put into play, it must prove itself to be the best.

Milled in USA from 303 stainless steel with customizable tungsten sole weights, the Newport 2 retains its tri-sole design, incorporates the Tour-inspired I-beam plumbing neck and introduces new dual-milled face technology, a milling process inspired by deep milled models, but with a second pass of the mill to level, or smooth, face grooves to deliver the feedback associated with mid-mill putters and a highly consistent putter face.

With its rounded compact mallet shape, Scotty Cameron’s Super Select GOLO 6 is sized in between the previous GOLO 5 and 7 models and is designed with a mid-bend shaft for nearly face balanced performance. Precision milled from 303 stainless steel, the Super Select GOLO 6 has an integrated sole plate machined from 6061 aircraft aluminum. The key to maintaining the same size, shape and overall head weight with a different neck is the integrated sole plate. Precision milled from 6061 aircraft aluminum and lightly misted with clear anodization, this engineered component allowed Scotty to distribute more stainless steel to the putter head’s perimeter for increased MOI, balance and feel.
